Zoo Song

Song: “You Can Hear” (Tune: She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain)

You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR ROAR!
You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR ROAR!
You can hear the lions roaring, you can hear the lions roaring,
You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR ROAR!
(Snakes hissing, bears growling, wolves howling, frogs croaking, zebras braying)

As quiet as can be
SNAP!!! (shut hands with a clap!)

STORYTIME: Zoos

The Seals on the Bus by Lenny Hort/ Ill. By G. Brian Karas, 2000.

Going to the Zoo by Tom Paxton - Goes throught the animals at the zoo with some fun audience participation. A great book that is written in song, get the kids to clap along or mimic the different noises and motions the animals in the book make to the beat of the song.

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell

Zoozical by Judy Sierra- A great romp at the zoo. A little long but rhymes beautifully so do this book first. Gives reader a chance to sing verses to some pretty silly songs. Oversing and be big with your movements to get the kids laughing. Follow up with "The Seals on the Bus" as this song is actually mentioned in this book. Very cute!

The Painting Gorilla by Michael Rex - A gorilla who lives in a zoo begins to paint wonderful paintings which grant him attention from the world.

Animal Strike at the Zoo. It's True! by Karma Wilson- The animals at the zoo go on strike!

Never, Ever Shout in a Zoo by Karma Wilson- A fun rhyming story about a little girl who shouts at the zoo and the consequences attached.

Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do you See? By Bill Martin Jr/ Eric Carle,2003.

Pet Wash by Dayle Ann Dodds/ Ill. By Tor Freeman, 2001.

Two at the Zoo by Danna Smith- Goes through a trip at the zoo and counts up as a boy and his grandfather explore the zoo. Nice illustrations and rhyming scheme.

For Pete’s Sake by Ellen Stoll Walsh, 1998.

Kiss Kiss! By Margaret Wild & Bridget Strevens-Marzo, 2003.

Whose Chick Are You? By Nancy Tafuri, 2007.
