Mr. Lobster and Mrs. Crab pinch and snap all day
Mr. Lobster and Mrs. Crab pinch and snap all day
With a pinch, pinch here and a snap, snap there
Here a pinch, there a snap, everywhere a pinch, snap

FELTBOARD: Five Little Ocean Friends

Five little ocean friends on the ocean floor,
The starfish walks away and now there are four
Four little ocean friends living in the sea
The crab slides away now there are three
Three little ocean friends looking for a clue
“Glub, glub,” said the lobster now there are two
Two little ocean friends not having much fun
Off swam the sea horse now there is one
One little octopus sad and all alone
Back swims the starfish, back swims the crab,
Back swims the lobster, back swims the sea horse
And they played in the sea foam, safe in their home.

STORYTIME: Sharks!

Books:
Five Little Sharks Swimming in the Sea by Steve Metzger - Told in the style of 5 Little Monkeys

Shark in the Park by Nick Sharratt - A great interactive book. This book has it all, humor, cutouts, physical and verbal participation.

The Great White Man-Eating Shark by Margaret Mahy- A funny book, but long so use only with your pre-schoolers.

I'm a Shark by Bob Shea- I must say Bob Shea really is the best. This book is so funny and is easily one of my new favorites. It can work for pre-school, Kindergarten age kids as well and parents will appreciate the subtle humor. Two narrators so a great opportunity to do multiple voices while reading.

The Goldfish

My darling little goldfish
Hasn’t any toes.
(point to toes)
He swims around without a sound
(make wavy motions with right hand)
And bumps his hungary nose
(tap nose with right hand)
He Can’t get out and play with me
(right hand swimming motion)
Nor I get in to him.
(left hand stands upright)
Although I say, “Come out and play”
(left hand beckons to right hand)
He says “come in and swim”
(right hand beckons to left hand)

STORYTIME: Ocean

Memoirs of a Goldfish by Devin Scillian- A bit on the long side so it's best for pre-school age kids. Funny book narrated by a goldfish who's fishbowl is getting more crowded as the owners add new fish and toys.

Sea, Sand, Me by Patricia Hubbell, ill. By Lisa Campbell Ernst

Beach Day by Patricia Lakin, ill. By Scott Nash

Hooray For Fish by Lucy Cousins

Fish Wish by Bob Barner

Good Thing Your Not an Octopus! By Julie Markes, ill. By Maggie Smith

Fidgety Fish by Ruth Galloway

All you Need for a Beach by Alice Schertle, ill. By Barbara Lavalee

The Deep Blue Sea by Audrey Wood, ill. By Bruce Wood

Sally Goes to the Beach by Stephen Huneck

What the Sea Saw by Stephanie St. Pierre - Wonderful huge realistic illustrations. A gentle story full of amazing imagery.

Old Shell, New Shell by Helen Ward- A really special story about a hermit crab in the ocean who has grown too big for his old shell. Wonderful illustrations of coral reef fish and flora are a great springboard for you to introduce some non-fiction books about coral reefs from the collection.

Three by the Sea by Mini Grey- A pretty long book for storytime, but worth trying it out. Will be better suited for the 4-7 age group.
