I'm a Little Groundhog

To the tune of I'm a Little Teapot

I'm a little groundhog (place hands on hips)
Short and brown
All Winter long, (rest head on hands and pretend to sleep)
I sleep underground.

On February 2nd (peek through cupped hands)
I peek out and then,
If I see my shadow (put hands over head as if hiding in a hole)
I go in my hole again!

I Stretch Up High

I Stretch My Hands

I stretch my hands way up high
Until they nearly reach the sky.

Then I stretch them way down low
To see how very far they’ll go.

I bend my knees, cross my feet
Lower my bum, and take a seat.

Musical instruments: Shaker Hokey Pokey

You shake your egg up, you shake your egg down
You shake your egg up, and you shake it all around
You do the hokey pokey, and you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!
(more verses can include: left/right, front/back, etc.)

-From the blog Storytime Katie

Dinosaur, Dinosaur

Dinosaur, dinosaur, turn around
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch the ground
Dinosaur, dinosaur, reach up high
Dinosaur, dinosaur, wink one eye
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your nose
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your toes
Dinosaur, dinosaur, slap your knees
Dinosaur, dinosaur, sit down please

The Alphabet Beat

First clap your hands. Then stomp your feet.
Everybody do the alphabet beat.
Apple, Apple, Apple – a – a – a,
Apple, Apple, Apple – a – a – a,
Wave your arms high. Swing your arms low.
The alphabet beat is the way to go.
Blue, Blue, Blue – b – b – b
Blue, Blue, Blue – b – b – b
Move to the left. Move to the right.
The alphabet beat is way out of sight.
Car, Car, Car – c – c – c
Car, Car, Car – c – c – c
Now give a high five to a nearby friend.
The alphabet beat has come to the end!

Rhyme: The Airplane

The airplane has great big wings (arms outstretched)
Its propeller spins around and sings “vvvvvv!” (make one arm go round)
The airplane goes up (lift arms)
The airplane goes down (lower arms)
The airplane flies high (arms outstretched, turn body around)
Over the town! (fly around)

Push ourselves down (squat)

And here we go:

Jack-in-the box sitting so still,
Won't you come out?

I'm A Little Cat

(Sung to "I'm a Little Teapot")
I'm a little cat.
Soft and furry.
I'll be your friend.
So don't you worry.
Right up on your lap I like to hop.
I'll purr, purr, purr and never stop.

Hold hands in a circle:

London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down. (hold hands and walk in circle)
London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady
Build it up with sticks and stones, sticks and stones, sticks and stones. (everyone take one step into circle and raise hands up together while still holding hands)
Build it up with sticks and stones my fair lady (everyone steps back)

Marching to the Drum

Now we are going to march around the circle together and when it is time to stop, each child will have a chance to hit "stop" on the drum.

We're marching to the drum; we're marching to the drum.
Hi-ho the derry-o we're marching to the drum.
We're marching around the room; we're marching around the room.
Hi-ho the derry-o we're marching around the room.
We're marching to the drum, we're marching to the drum.
Hi-ho the derry-o we're marching to the drum
and the drum says STOP! (go around the circle and give each child a chance to hit the drum)

As each child hits the drum reward them with a positive word

* Can use the variations of running, creeping, tiptoeing,

Grand Old Duke of York

Oh, the Grand Old Duke of York, he had ten thousand men.
He marched them up (feet up) to the top of the hill, and marched them down (feet down) again.
And when they were up, they were up (up)
And when they were down, they were down (down)
And when they were only half way up (half way up), they were neither up (up) nor down (down)

The Dinosaurs

The dinosaurs lived long ago, when life on earth began.
(gesture palm up wave over your shoulder)
Some were tall (gesture high).
Some were small (gesture low).
Some liked water (gesture swimming).
Some liked land (gesture walking by alternating palms on your knees).
Pteranadons had leathery wings (gesture flying).
Brontausaurs, long necks (gesture to neck).
But the meanest dinosaur of all (gesture mean face).
Was Tyranosaurus Rex (gesture heavy stomping by alternating
  palms on your knees).

Five Little Snowmen

A great audience participation, you can get kids to stand up in front and melt away at different points in the rhyme.  Repeat to include as many kids as you can.

Five little snowmen standing in a row
Each had a hat and a big red bow
Out came the sun and it shone all day
One little snowman melted away

Four little snowmen standing in a row
Each had a hat and a big red bow
Out came the sun and it shone all day
One little snowman melted away

Three little snowmen standing in a row
Each had a hat and a big red bow
Out came the sun and it shone all day
One little snowman melted away

Two little snowmen standing in a row
Each had a hat and a big red bow
Out came the sun and it shone all day
One little snowman melted away

One little snowmen standing in a row
Each had a hat and a big red bow
Out came the sun and it shone all day
One little snowman melted away

The Elephant

An elephant goes like this and that.
(sway body left to right)
He’s terribly big and terribly fat
(raise arms out from sides to show fatness)
He has no fingers,
(wiggle fingers)
He had no toes,
(point to toes)
But goodness gracious what a nose!
(hold arm in front of face like a trunk)

I’m Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor

I’m being swallowed by a boa constrictor, a boa constrictor, a boa constrictor,
I’m being swallowed by a boa constrictor,
And It really hurts!
Oh No No No it ate my toe toe toe.
Oh gee gee gee it ate my knee knee knee.
Oh my my my it ate my thigh thigh thigh.
Oh fiddle fiddle fiddle it ate my middle middle middle.
Oh heck heck heck it ate my neck neck neck.
Oh dread dread dread it ate my head head head.
I’m being swallowed by a boa constrictor,
And it really hurts

*Shel Silverstein poem, I changed the wording slightly a the chorus so that it is more singable.

Shake My Sillies Out by Raffi

I'm gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!

I'm gonna clap, clap, clap my crazies out.
Clap, clap, clap my crazies out,
Clap, clap, clap my crazies out,
And wiggle my waggles away!

I’m gonna jump, jump, jump my jiggles out.
Jump, jump, jump my jiggles out,
Jump, jump, jump my jiggles out,
And wiggle my waggles away!

I'm gonna yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out.
Yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out,
Yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out,
And wiggle my waggles away,

I'm gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away,
And wiggle my waggles away!
Hooray!

We Are Gardeners

To the tune of Farmer in the Dell

We all plant the seeds
We all plant the seeds
Heigh ho the derry-o
We all plant the seeds
Bend down to plant seeds

The sun comes out to shine
The sun comes out to shine
Heigh ho the derry-o
The sun comes out to shine
Hold hands up in the air to be the sun

The rain starts to fall
The rain starts to fall
Heigh ho the derry-o
The rain starts to fall
Use fingers to simulate rain falling

The seeds start to grow
The seeds start to grow
Heigh ho the derry-o
The seeds start to grow
Put hand through other hand to mimic plant coming out of soil

We all smell the flowers
We all smell the flowers
Heigh ho the derry-o
We all smell the flowers
Sniff flowers extravagently
