If I Had a Robot by Dan YaccarinoHello, Robot by Bob Staake- I really love this book. The illustrations are a little abstract and his colors pallet is so bright. This story about 4 robots is a crowd pleaser.
Here in Space by David Mailgrim - A little boy tells of the wonders in the world he lives in in outer space which sound suspiciously like our own world.
I Want to Be an Astronaut by Byron Barton - Big bold black outlined images tell the story of a person wanting to go into outer space. A fast read.
Boy + Bot by Ame Dyckman- I like this book because it has a narrative yet is still a good read aloud for toddlers. I get this question a lot from teachers looking for books that are good for that age group but have character development and plot. A great not too long, but humorous book.
If the Moon Could Talk by Kate Banks - A soft gentle story with illustrations that kids can enjoy from afar as well as up close. Would recommend using this as an opening story as the plot is told in a slow and steady pace.

A Truck Goes Rattley-Bumpa by Jonathan London- A great baby storytime read. Can be used with toddlers too but you may need to add some filler to the very sparse text.
Trucks by Patricia Hubbell- Toddler boys will especially like the illustrations of different kinds of trucks from fire engines to moving trucks.
Boats by Patricia Hubbell- A pretty interesting look at the different kinds of boats. Goes really in depth so skip over some details when reading aloud.
Car Wash by Sandra Steen - Using a mixed media style of illustration and create fonts this imaginative story is envisioned by a pair of kids going through the car wash in the backseat of their father's car.
Little Blue Truck Leads the Way by Alice Schertle- A little blue truck ventures into the big city and get shoved about by all the other bigger forms of transportation.
Dinos on the Go by Karma Wilson- Follows the same recipe as her book "Dinos in the Snow." What kid doesn't like dinosaurs and trucks. Put them together and you get an instant hit! Though I often find her books can lose kids by the end due to the sheer amount of repetition.
Clickety Clack by Rob and Amy Spence - A fun train ride of a book. Great call and response participation with the familiar line "clikety clack" which kids can accompany with clapping out the syllables.
If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen- Nice rhyming scheme and lush, colorful illustrations from the creator of Mercy Watson. On the long side so do wiht older pre-schoolers or do as your first book at storytime.
I am a Backhoe by Anna Grossnickle Hines- Fun book to have the kids mimic the movements of each piece of heavy machinery like the boy in the story does.
Vroomaloom Zoom by John Coy - A little girl and her father go for a drive and pass through all sorts of crazy terrain.
Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia - With great large Eric Carle style illustrations this is a fun audience participation book. Get the kids to act out the motions of each type of machine. Ie: lift, dig, push to create a beautiful playground at the end of the book

Please, Puppy, Please by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee- Great writing and great illustrations from a puppy eye perspective. Fun refrain that the kids will enjoy saying along with he story and some moments kids will find very funny, especially if you play it up while reading.

Posey by Linda Newberry- I really love this book. The pictures are so sweet and really capture the movements and habits of cats very well. A sweet read aloud.
Fun Dog, Sun Dog by Deborah Heiligman- A little boy and his dog do some fun things on a summer day. Nice rhyming scheme, sounds a bit like "I Don't Want a Posh Dog."

Baby Bird by Joyce Dunbar - This book contains comic book style panel illustrations with the simple text along the bottom of the page. This could be used to teach children the concept of reading panels from left to right.
Don't Copy Me! by Jonathan Allen- So funny! From the guys who brought you "I am not Cute!" A puffin is followed by 3 small puffins and they follow him and copycat him all day. How annoying!
Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert - Birdies explore all the different things they can find in trees to eat.
Birds by Kevin Henkes-A really lovely book. Great illustrations and wonderful blend of imagination and education in the text. Can really make an impression on how we think of birds.
More by I.C. Springman- Wonderful illustrations by Brian Lies. A simple tale with minimal text that teaches kids that less is more in a very elegant manner.
Hungry Hen by Richard Waring- I was not especially impressed with this book. That said I think it could work okay for a story time book. It is a quick read and the illsutrations take up the whole page. The twist at the end I thought was a little weak but perhaps kids would find it funny. The irony however may be lost on them.

Two at the Zoo by Danna Smith- Goes through a trip at the zoo and counts up as a boy and his grandfather explore the zoo. Nice illustrations and rhyming scheme.

Duck on a Bike by David Shannon- A duck borrows a bike and takes it for a ride all around the farm as the other farm animals look on with different opinions on the matter. Pretty funny.
Tickle the Duck! by Ethan Long - A super fun participation book. Have the kids motion tickling the duck and read his reactions throughout the book. Guaranteed to have your kids laughing out loud.

Sally and the Purple Socks by Lisze Bechtold - Sally orders purple socks that grow to fit her feet, but something goes terribly wrong when her socks wont stop growing. A short story that has a simple humorous plot.
Never Take a Shark to the Dentist (and other things not to do) by Judi Barrett- Funny for both parents and kids as we learn why to never play checkers with a spider and other cautionary tales. The audience will pour over the great illustrations and you can create a dialog why each page his funny (what are they doing differently than normal).
Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems - A pigeon really wants to drive the bus, whatever you do, don't let him!
Ready for Anything by Keiko Kasza
New Socks by Bob Shea - A very cute book with big bold illustrations similar to Jan Thomas's "Can You Make a Scary Face" where the main character of the story addresses the audience. Little chick has a pair of fun new socks he really wants to show off to you. Some simple activities can accompany this story including having kids take off their shoes and show off their socks. Or if your brave put wax paper down on the ground and have the kids slide on it.
Stop Kissing Me! by Ethan Long - A duck gives sloppy kissed to Poodle, needless to say Poodle is not to happy about this until................
Silly Sally by Audrey Wood - Silly Sally went to town walking backwards, upside down! So goes the refrain in the book which kids will delight in saying with you. A fun rhyming fairy tale of a book for all ages. Follow up with being totally silly and try things like walking backwards in a circle and touching your nose, etc.!
How Do You Hug a Porcupine? by Laurie Isop- A great great great book! Lots of humor and a clever rhyming scheme make this a must read for all ages storytimes.
There was a Bold Lady Who Wanted a Star by Carise Mericle Harper- A play on "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly."

I Love to Sing by Anna Walker- A simple charming read where a little unidentifiable creature sings all over the place, even in a bathtub with a cup of tea. A great way to encourage kids to sing everywhere they go. Since we all know singing is a fantastic introduction to vocabulary for young children.

I do often wish though that these kinds of books would use some more difficult to guess animals. It seems that would be a little more challenging for kids and would introduce them to new animals.

Do Not Build a Frankenstein by Neil Numberman - A boy warns his classmates not to make a Frankenstein and lists all the reasons why. A funny book for a little bit older crown, but toddlers may also have some interest.
